Understanding ATS Optimization

Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are software used by employers to filter resumes before human review. Our AI creates documents that pass these systems while remaining readable and professional.

What makes a resume ATS-friendly:

  • Simple, clean formatting without tables or columns
  • Standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills)
  • Keywords from the job description naturally incorporated
  • Proper file format (PDF or Word) that parses correctly
  • No images, graphics, or special characters that confuse parsers

Fit Analysis Guide

How Fit Scoring Works

When you save a job, hrvstr's AI analyzes both your resume and the job description to calculate a fit score. This score represents how well your background matches what the employer is looking for.

The analysis considers:

  • Required skills and technologies mentioned in the job posting
  • Years of experience and seniority level alignment
  • Industry and domain expertise matches
  • Educational requirements and certifications
  • Soft skills and cultural fit indicators

Interpreting Your Match Score

Your fit score is displayed as a percentage. Here's how to interpret it:

  • 80-100%: Excellent match. You meet or exceed most requirements.
  • 60-79%: Good match. You have most qualifications with some gaps.
  • 40-59%: Fair match. Consider highlighting transferable skills.
  • Below 40%: Stretch role. Focus on your strongest alignments.

Remember: many successful candidates are hired at 60-70% match. Use the score as a guide, not a barrier.

Using Requirements Tracking

hrvstr extracts key requirements from each job posting and tracks which ones you meet. This breakdown helps you understand exactly where you align and where you might need to address gaps in your application.

  • Green checkmarks indicate requirements you clearly meet
  • Yellow indicators show partial matches or related experience
  • Red highlights point to gaps you may want to address
  • Use this breakdown when writing your cover letter

Identifying Skill Gaps

The fit analysis identifies skills or experiences the job requires that aren't clearly demonstrated in your resume. Use these insights to:

  • Address gaps proactively in your cover letter
  • Highlight transferable skills that relate to the gap
  • Identify skills worth developing for future applications
  • Decide if a role is realistic given your current experience
