The footage and tournament reports establish the golf-course disruption. They do not establish a change to the championship result or a sporting penalty against Desmond. The incident should therefore remain separate from reports on who won the professional competition.
The club’s response
Celtic issued an official statement on October 3 condemning the disruption of an unrelated sporting event. The club said it would stop recognising the Celtic Fans Collective as a representative body and cease engagement with it immediately.
It also said it was examining the events and would indefinitely ban from Celtic Park any individuals or groups established to have planned, facilitated or participated in the action. That was the club’s announced response, with identification of those involved still part of its examination.
For the Dunhill, the episode illustrates an unusual exposure of the pro-am format: an amateur’s outside business or sporting role can become the reason protesters interrupt a round. Here, the target was Desmond, while the venue and playing group were part of a professional golf event.
