Stephen Jones says Dallas still backs Schottenheimer after second straight loss

The Cowboys head toward Philadelphia at 2-4, with ownership supporting the head coach as the offense struggles.

Stephen Jones said the Cowboys still back Brian Schottenheimer after Sunday's 23-13 loss at Green Bay dropped Dallas to 2-4.

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan on Monday, Jones said he and Jerry Jones remain confident in the coach.

Schottenheimer calls the offensive plays, and the Cowboys' problems have spread to that side of the ball. The Packers loss followed a 24-16 defeat against Tampa Bay. Across those two games, Dak Prescott threw two touchdown passes and four interceptions, according to Yahoo Sports.

Dallas was averaging 76 rushing yards per game, ranking 31st in the league. The struggles continued even after left guard Tyler Smith returned from injury.

Jones acknowledged that the offense's recent performances were surprising after the way the group played last season and early this year. He also said the team may have expected the defense to improve too quickly.

The Cowboys next face Philadelphia on Monday night. Both teams enter that matchup at 2-4. Dallas still has a chance in an unsettled NFC East, but the offense has to recover after two straight losses.
