Solana postpones Shanghai event after registration surge, Liu says

The Foundation president says sign-ups quadrupled beyond the cap registered with local authorities. No replacement date was announced.

Solana Foundation has postponed its Accelerate event in Shanghai after registrations quadrupled overnight and exceeded the attendance cap filed with local authorities, Foundation president Lily Liu said Friday.

Liu attributed the surge to publicity for the gathering. Organizers could not prevent the venue from being overwhelmed, she said, and would postpone the event until they could accommodate the community while complying with local requirements.

Her statement, posted October 16 at 4:51 a.m. Eastern, did not give a replacement date. She apologized to people who had traveled to Shanghai.

Shanghai was scheduled to open the four-city Accelerate China tour October 16. The official event site now lists Hangzhou on October 18, Shenzhen on October 20 and Beijing on October 22. Liu’s statement addressed the Shanghai event.

An initial notice to registered guests cited venue logistics, Solana Compass reported. Attendees also reported officers at the venue. Liu’s statement cited the registration cap and did not describe a police order or announce changes to the other tour stops.
