The Heat and Raptors open preseason Saturday at 7 p.m. ET in Québec City, with Miami center Nick Richards’ roster bid and Toronto’s young scorers offering two useful storylines. The game at Videotron Centre airs on NBA TV, giving both teams their first preseason test against outside competition.
Richards is an immediate example of the work Miami still has to do around its headline additions. Zachary Weinberger reported Saturday for ClutchPoints that the center joined the Heat on a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. Richards told Weinberger that practicing against Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo and Bobby Portis, and asking about their preparation, was helping him improve.
Adebayo’s assessment focused on the possessions Richards can create: rebounding, running the floor and finishing above the rim. The praise came after Friday’s practice, in Weinberger’s interview below. That gives Richards a specific preseason task: turn those training-camp contributions into useful game minutes while pursuing a place on the opening-night roster.
The NBA previewed Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo’s first preseason appearance together in its Saturday Québec City post.
