Revolut has received permission in Gibraltar to handle crypto orders, hold customers' virtual assets and provide staking through a new subsidiary, adding a regulated entity to its international crypto business.
The Gibraltar government confirmed the authorization for Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited on Monday, October 19. The permission was granted under Part 7 of the territory's Financial Services Act and covers the transmission and execution of virtual asset orders, custody and staking.
The announcement also brings a practical change for local residents: Revolut has fully resumed accepting new customers in Gibraltar for its electronic money and payments app. The government said residents can open accounts again after work between the company, trade and industry minister Nigel Feetham and the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.
GBC News reported on both developments in this October 19 segment. The local broadcaster had reported the previous week that Revolut was preparing to return.
