Hawkins and Memphis reportedly agree to part ways weeks after trade

Shams Charania reports a mutual departure; Hawkins can seek a new team once he clears waivers.

Jordan Hawkins and the Memphis Grizzlies have mutually agreed to part ways, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Friday night, putting the former lottery pick on course to seek another team once he clears waivers. The report comes less than a month after New Orleans traded him to Memphis.

No new team was identified in Charania's report.

Memphis acquired Hawkins and Micah Peavy in a deal that sent AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson to the Pelicans. New Orleans also sent a future second-round pick and a future second-round pick swap, according to the NBA's official trade announcement. That September move gave Hawkins a change of setting after three seasons with the team that drafted him.

Hawkins was the 14th pick in the 2023 draft out of UConn. The NBA's trade report lists him at 5.1 points per game across 51 appearances last season. Across his three Pelicans seasons, he averaged eight points and 2.3 rebounds, shooting 34.8 percent from three in 18 minutes per game.

Earlier reporting: September trade

The Pelicans are trading Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy, a future second-round pick and a future second-round pick swap to the Grizzlies for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson, sources told ESPN.
