Kyren Williams scored the first NFL touchdown in Australia

The Rams’ only touchdown in Melbourne belonged to a former Notre Dame back who now owns a small piece of international NFL history.

Kyren Williams scored the first touchdown in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia. The former Notre Dame back reached the end zone on a five-yard run for the Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The touchdown gave Los Angeles a 7–3 lead over San Francisco. It proved to be the Rams’ only touchdown in a 27–7 defeat. Williams finished with 41 rushing yards and 24 receiving yards on 14 touches.

A crowd of 100,021 attended the league’s Australian debut. The result belonged to the 49ers, but Williams supplied the game’s first touchdown—and the NFL’s official clip preserves that moment below.
