Notre Dame, Nebraska and Navy each had a fourth-quarter lead and still lost in the October 17 college football night games. Florida State forced Miami into a second overtime, then saw its final possession end with a play ruled an interception after review, following a holding penalty that erased a potential touchdown.
Nine of the 22 games in this prime-time and late slate were decided by eight points or fewer. Oregon converted two fourth downs on its winning drive. Houston ran out the clock after Oklahoma State's last touchdown, and Kentucky's defense supplied its final score.
Notre Dame's last chance ends with a clock error
BYU's Bear Bachmeier threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Walker Lyons with 1:47 remaining, giving the Cougars their 28-24 winning margin. Notre Dame had taken the lead on Jonaz Walton's touchdown run and two-point conversion, then intercepted Bachmeier. BYU forced a punt before mounting the winning drive.
The Associated Press reported that the Big 12 acknowledged time remained when CJ Carr's pass hit the ground and that replay officials incorrectly cleared the play. The recorded result stayed 28-24; the acknowledgment concerned the chance for another snap.
