Kyler Murray throws for 150 yards and the Vikings are 6-0 anyway

Minnesota beat the Colts 16-10 with one touchdown and a defense that sacked Daniel Jones four times. Brian Flores' unit keeps covering for a slow offense.

The Minnesota Vikings are 6-0, and on Sunday they got there with Kyler Murray throwing for 150 yards and the offense scoring one touchdown. They beat the Indianapolis Colts 16-10 at U.S. Bank Stadium because the defense held Indianapolis to 218 yards.

That's been the formula. The Associated Press described the Vikings as winning yet again despite minimal production from Murray and the offense, and nothing about this game argued otherwise.

The Colts scored on their opening drive, a 38-yard Jonathan Taylor run, and then barely moved it through the air the rest of the day. Daniel Jones completed 13 of 22 passes for 108 yards and was sacked four times for 44 yards as defensive coordinator Brian Flores kept sending blitzers. Blake Cashman had 12 tackles, two sacks, four pass breakups and three quarterback hits. The Colts finished with 64 net passing yards.

Harrison Smith closed it. With Minnesota up 16-10 and about a minute left, the 15th-year safety picked off Jones around midfield, the 40th interception of his career.

The offense had its moment, and it came off a Colts mistake. Shane Steichen sent Spencer Shrader out for a 56-yard field goal on fourth-and-2 instead of going for it, Shrader missed, and Murray ran 35 yards on the next drive to set up his 5-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Hockenson. Outside of that drive, Minnesota's points came from Will Reichard field goals of 28, 47 and 52 yards.

DOWN GOES DANIEL JONES

The kickers made it stranger. Reichard set a franchise record with 35 straight made field goals in the second quarter, then had a 59-yarder blocked by Grover Stewart in the fourth before hitting from 52 with 1:39 left. Shrader, the NFL's leading scorer with 70 points, missed twice in the second half and saw his streak of 22 straight makes end.

Murray finished 14 of 24 for 150 yards with the touchdown, and ran for 39 yards. Jordan Mason ran 15 times for 68 yards, and Justin Jefferson caught four passes for 44. Minnesota went 3 for 11 on third down. Aaron Jones aggravated his knee in the fourth quarter and didn't return. The Colts, playing without Sauce Gardner, fell to 2-5, and Taylor's 95 rushing yards were most of their offense.

At some point the Vikings will play a team that doesn't hand them a 56-yard decision on fourth-and-2. Next Sunday's game at Detroit could be that test.
