Josh Woods takes over Falcons’ defensive calls after Kendal Daniels injury

Atlanta was already without Divine Deablo when Daniels left with a neck injury. The Falcons say Daniels is alert and has movement in all his extremities.

Josh Woods took over Atlanta's defensive play-calling duties after rookie linebacker Kendal Daniels left Sunday's game against the Bears with a neck injury, ESPN reported. The Falcons were already without Divine Deablo, who had been ruled out with an arm injury.

Daniels, a fourth-round pick from Oklahoma who has started since Week 1, was handling the calls when he was hurt in the third quarter. ESPN's Marc Raimondi reported that Woods took over that responsibility after Daniels left.

The Falcons later announced that Daniels was alert, had movement in all his extremities and had been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

Atlanta ruled Daniels out for the rest of the game. The team's condition update did not provide a further diagnosis or a timetable for his return.

Daniels was injured while attempting to tackle tight end Colston Loveland after a pass completion. Medical personnel stabilized his neck and body before taking him off the field on a stretcher and cart, ESPN reported. Players and coaches gathered around him as the medical staff prepared to move him.
