The extra season is added to a contract that already covered this season and the following two. NBC Sports reported that McDaniels now has four years and $124 million remaining on his deal, giving Minnesota another year with a player who has spent his entire NBA career with the franchise.
For the Wolves, the agreement follows a season in which McDaniels increased his offensive production while continuing to handle difficult defensive assignments. He averaged 14.8 points and 4.2 rebounds last season and shot 41.2 percent from three-point range, according to NBC Sports. His scoring average rose to 16.3 points in the playoffs.
McDaniels was a second-team All-Defensive selection in 2024. Minnesota opens its regular season Wednesday at Miami, with the 26-year-old entering his seventh NBA season.
The contract also gives McDaniels a defined decision point later in his career. Charania reported that he could negotiate another extension as early as 2028 or reach free agency in 2030 with ten years of NBA service.
