The agreement arrived before Monday's deadline for rookie contract extensions. Without a deal, Miller would have entered next summer as a restricted free agent after playing the upcoming season on his team option.

Miller averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season. He rebounded from a difficult second year to give Charlotte another scoring threat alongside rookie Kon Knueppel, helping the Hornets recover from a poor start and reach the play-in tournament.

Charlotte beat Miami in its first play-in game, then lost to Orlando. The franchise's playoff drought continued, but the offseason brought a larger role for Miller: The Hornets traded LaMelo Ball to Minnesota in a deal that brought back Naz Reid and draft assets.

Miller also had surgery on his left shoulder after last season. His return, and the additional shots and responsibility available after Ball's departure, give Charlotte more to assess as he begins his fourth NBA season.

The Hornets selected Miller second overall in the 2023 draft.
