Dallas drafted Morez Johnson Jr. at No. 9 the night it hired Dusty May

The Michigan forward started 40 games on the national-title team and told ESPN, "We're the Michigan Mavs now."

With the ninth pick in the 2026 draft on June 23, Dallas took Michigan forward Morez Johnson Jr., who started 40 games on the national-title team and averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds as a sophomore on 62/34/78 splits with 1.1 blocks.

Johnson told ESPN, "We're the Michigan Mavs now." Dallas also held Nos. 30 and 48. It is the fifth time in franchise history the club picked ninth. He signed his rookie scale deal July 2.
