Cross River adds RLUSD to its core banking payment rails

The Ripple stablecoin integration uses the XRP Ledger and a single banking API, with services currently limited to certain states.

Cross River Bank is adding Ripple's dollar-backed RLUSD stablecoin to its Core Operating System, giving fintech customers another payment rail through the banking platform's existing API connection.

The October 15 announcement covers RLUSD transactions on the XRP Ledger. Cross River says the integration supports movement between dollars and RLUSD, cross-border payments and treasury transfers around the clock, alongside access to ACH, wires and real-time payments.

Customers would use the bank's platform without deploying their own blockchain infrastructure. PYMNTS reported the integration as an additional settlement option within the same environment as Cross River's traditional payment rails.

The bank's announcement carries an availability limit: services are currently offered only in limited states. It does not identify those states, name customers using the integration or report transaction volumes.

A dollar-backed asset on a public ledger

RLUSD and XRP have different roles. Ripple's official FAQ describes RLUSD as a stablecoin backed one-to-one by dollar deposits, U.S. Treasuries and cash equivalents. XRP is the XRP Ledger's native cryptocurrency, with a market price rather than a dollar peg.

Ripple says RLUSD's reserve assets are held in segregated accounts and publishes independent monthly attestations.
