Cowboys bring back Israel Abanikanda after Malik Davis moves to IR

Dallas re-signed Abanikanda to its practice squad, giving the post-Week-1 backfield another depth option before the Commanders visit.

Dallas brought Israel Abanikanda back to its practice squad Thursday after Malik Davis moved to injured reserve with a season-ending hip injury. Abanikanda had been waived earlier in the week when the Cowboys signed Tyler Goodson, then cleared waivers and returned to the club.

The move leaves Dallas with Javonte Williams, Emari Demercado, Tyler Goodson and Hunter Luepke on the active backfield group, with Abanikanda available as a developmental option. It does not change Sunday's depth chart by itself, but it gives the Cowboys another runner to prepare if the room takes another hit.

The transaction is a small move with a clear local consequence: Dallas is managing injury loss through repeated short-term roster decisions rather than pretending the backfield is settled. The publisher should confirm that `1053-the-fan` is the intended local newsroom before release.
