Cowboys agree to extend Brevyn Spann-Ford through 2029

The tight end earned a larger role during camp and was approaching restricted free agency after this season.

The Cowboys have agreed to terms on an extension with tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford that keeps him in Dallas through the 2029 season, the team announced Thursday.

Spann-Ford had been set to become a restricted free agent after 2026. The agreement gives Dallas longer-term continuity at a position where Jake Ferguson remains the leading option. The club's announcement did not disclose financial terms.

According to the Cowboys, Spann-Ford moved into the second tight end role during training camp, with in-line blocking and special-teams work central to his contribution. The team also credited his work with Ferguson and tight ends coach Lunda Wells as he developed as a receiver.

For Dallas, the extension rewards a player whose job includes helping the rest of the offense function: protecting Dak Prescott and creating room in the running game. That role can matter even when it produces few receiving targets.

The agreement does not establish how many passes Spann-Ford will see this season. It does show that Dallas wants to keep the tight end pairing together beyond the coming year. His regular-season usage will be the next measure of how the camp role carries into games.
