The injury came at the end of Skattebo's best day of the season. He ran 17 times for 124 yards and a touchdown as the Giants beat the Texans, and Devin Singletary scored the go-ahead touchdown late. NBC Sports noted that Skattebo pulled up at the end of a 42-yard run that could have put the game away, then appeared to point to his hamstring on the sideline. The Giants closed out the game without him getting another carry.
What is confirmed so far is Skattebo's own account and the timing. The team has not given a diagnosis, and there is no word yet on an MRI or a timeline. This is also not his first hamstring issue this year. He left an August practice early with what The Athletic's Dan Duggan identified as a hamstring problem, and coach John Harbaugh called it "nothing serious at all" at the time.
The timing works in his favor. The Giants are off in Week 8, so Skattebo gets two weeks before the next game, and he will not cost anyone a lineup slot next Sunday.
Sunday mattered for his role. He had zero touches in Week 6 after an overtime fumble, and the Giants waived Najee Harris during the week before giving Skattebo the lead job back. Singletary finished 5 for 41 and a score, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. went 6 for 15 and a score.
What RSO owners should do now: hold Skattebo and do not sell him at an injury discount before the Giants say anything. If you need depth, Singletary is the cheaper add, since he would likely see more early-down work if Skattebo misses time after the bye. Owners in deeper leagues can look at Tracy as well.
What to watch next: any MRI result or update from Harbaugh this week, and whether Skattebo is a full participant when the Giants return to practice ahead of Week 9.
