Wisconsin's defense did most of the work. USC finished with minus-17 rushing yards on 25 carries, and the Badgers held the Trojans to 92 yards in the first half, according to the Associated Press. Jayden Maiava threw two first-half interceptions, to Cairo Skanes and Bryce West. The AP noted Maiava came into the game with three interceptions on 224 attempts all season.
USC scored first in the second quarter on Maiava's 4-yard pass to Taniela Tupou for a 7-3 lead. Jackson's 5-yard run with 1:51 left in the half put Wisconsin back in front 10-7, and it was his first touchdown as a Badger.
Colton Joseph hit Chris Brooks Jr. for a 16-yard touchdown on fourth-and-2 in the third quarter to make it 17-7. Late in the third, Junior Poyser blocked a 44-yard USC field goal try. Caden Chittenden missed both of his attempts. Ryan Schwendeman's 1-yard run with 5:02 left closed the scoring.
Gavin Lahm's 33-yard field goal in the first quarter had given Wisconsin its first points, and he made all three extra points. The Badgers ran the ball 43 times and held it for 32:36, which kept the USC offense on the sideline for long stretches.
