The delay has made the rookie’s preparation largely a classroom exercise. In Slater’s report, Brown described studying practice film and the staff’s installations, asking questions and trying to learn the system before he returned to full participation. He said his Summer League experience had already introduced him to some of those concepts. Wednesday would let him apply that preparation against another team.
Brooklyn selected Brown sixth in June. The Nets’ draft announcement identified him as their highest selection since Derrick Favors went third in 2010. His arrival adds another young guard alongside Egor Demin, whom Brooklyn drafted the previous year.
Fernández discussed that pairing at Media Day, pointing to their shooting, creation and size in Slater’s reporting. The coach also described the value of Demin having already completed his rookie season while Brown starts his own. He emphasized developing trust within the group and said seeing the pair on the floor would help the staff make adjustments.
Brown’s practice progress does not settle his eventual place in the opening lineup. Slater reported that Keon Ellis has been starting alongside Demin during the preseason. The immediate update concerns Brown’s availability for the final exhibition; a starting role or regular-season minutes plan has not been announced in these reports.
The Nets open the regular season at home against Charlotte on October 21. First comes Wednesday’s Miami game, where Brown is expected to get his initial preseason work after the ankle problem interrupted training camp.
