Arch Manning runs for two TDs as No. 19 Texas holds off No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27

Texas led 24-3 at halftime, watched Ole Miss tie it early in the fourth quarter and survived an end-zone heave on the final play. The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Longhorns.

Arch Manning ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, and No. 19 Texas beat No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27 on Saturday night in Austin after nearly giving away a 21-point lead. Jelani McDonald intercepted Trinidad Chambliss in the end zone on the last play.

Texas looked in control at the break. Manning scored on a 2-yard run late in the first quarter, hit Ryan Wingo for a 50-yard touchdown early in the second, and Michael Terry III ran in from 2 yards out for a 24-3 lead. Late in the half, Ole Miss punter Oscar Bird ran 17 yards on a fake to set up a scoring chance, but Texas stopped the Rebels at the goal line.

The second half flipped fast. On Texas' first possession, Manning was hit from his blind side by Blake Purchase, and Kam Franklin recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a Rebels touchdown. Franklin later sacked Manning on a hit that sent him to the sideline for a medical check. He missed one play and came back the next series.

Chambliss threw touchdown passes of 6 and 27 yards to Horatio Fields, and the second one, a contested catch early in the fourth quarter, tied the game at 24.

Raleek Brown answered. His 47-yard run set up a fake handoff that fooled the Ole Miss defense, and Manning walked around the end untouched from a yard out for a 31-24 lead with 8:04 left. Gianni Spetic's 33-yard field goal made it 34-24 with 2:25 to go.

It still wasn't over. Lucas Carneiro kicked a 39-yard field goal with 1:22 left, and Emmett Mosley IV couldn't hold the onside kick, so Ole Miss got the ball back. Chambliss' final throw into the end zone ended in McDonald's hands.

Brown finished with 157 rushing yards on 23 carries. Wingo caught seven passes for 111 yards. Manning went 18 of 30 for 212 yards with two interceptions and lost the fumble, and the Associated Press said the two rushing scores were his first of the season. McDonald led Texas with 12 tackles.

Chambliss completed 25 of 52 passes for 250 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Deuce Alexander caught eight balls for 87 yards.

Texas was flagged 14 times, a season high according to the AP. Receiver Cam Coleman dropped what should have been a 59-yard touchdown in the first quarter and was helped off after landing on his left shoulder on the first play of the second half.

Texas is 5-2 and 2-2 in the SEC and hosts Mississippi State next Saturday. Ole Miss is 5-2 and 3-2 and hosts Auburn.
