The Titans had just tied it. Tony Pollard scored from a yard out with 58 seconds left, his third touchdown of the day, which tied his career high. Watson then found tight end Harold Fannin Jr. on a 36-yard catch-and-run to put Szmyt in range. The AP noted officials appeared to miss a Browns false start on that play.
The kick made up for an earlier miss. Szmyt hit the right upright from 43 yards in the first minute of the fourth quarter with the score tied at 17. Joey Slye then tied it 17-17 with a 29-yard field goal with 8:41 left, and Watson answered with a 71-yard drive he finished himself on a 9-yard touchdown run with 4:34 to go.
Tennessee had its best start of the season. Pollard ran 36 yards for a touchdown on the opening drive and added a 10-yarder for a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Cleveland stopped him at the goal line on fourth down in the second quarter, with Maliek Collins making the tackle.
Quinshon Judkins had already answered with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. In the second, Anthony Hill Jr. stripped Fannin and Tony Adams recovered for Tennessee, and Denzel Ward intercepted Cam Ward on the very next play. Cleveland drove 78 yards after the pick, and Judkins scored again from 6 yards to tie it at 14. Szmyt's 28-yard field goal as the half ended gave the Browns a 17-14 lead.
