Who does what on the Patriots' 2026 coaching staff
A guide to the coordinator roles and the people working directly with New England's offense.
4 sources / Updated September 7, 2026
The Patriots' coaching chart is worth keeping close as the regular season begins. Understanding who handles each part of the team makes press conferences and weekly adjustments easier to follow.
The club's 2026 staff listing names Mike Vrabel as head coach, Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator, Zak Kuhr as defensive coordinator and Jeremy Springer as special teams coordinator. Terrell Williams is assistant head coach.
The offensive position assignments add useful detail. Ashton Grant coaches quarterbacks, Todd Downing works with receivers and Doug Marrone handles the offensive line. Thomas Brown is listed with tight ends and as passing game coordinator. Those titles describe different responsibilities within one offense, not separate competing playbooks.
Kuhr's title formalized work he had already been doing. In its March report on his promotion, Patriots.com explained that he had taken on defensive coordinating and play-calling duties during the previous season. The same report described Williams continuing in an influential role on the staff.
For viewers, the chart is a tool for asking better questions. A protection issue, a receiver's route detail and a fourth-down decision do not necessarily belong to the same conversation. Position coaching, coordination and overall game management operate at different levels.
That does not make accountability disappear into a list of titles. It helps locate the explanation worth seeking.
As weekly coverage builds, listen for what each coach says about the part of the operation he oversees. Specific answers about an assignment or an adjustment are more informative than treating every quote as a broad verdict on the team.
This is the 2026 staff structure, not a new September hiring announcement. It is the reference guide for the season ahead.
Where the chart changed
The March reporting also identified Vinny DePalma's move to inside linebackers coach and the additions of Charles London as an offensive analyst, Jonathan Decoster as an offensive-line assistant and B.J. Edmonds as a defensive assistant. Those changes sit below the coordinator headlines but help explain the division of work shown on the staff chart.
The team's original staff post is included as a direct reference. It comes from March, so it should be read as the announcement of the season's structure, not a new development during game week.
A useful way to follow coaching coverage is to separate description from evaluation. The list establishes a job title. A press conference may explain an intended correction. Whether the correction worked requires watching subsequent play. Moving through those steps keeps a reassuring quote from becoming proof that an issue is solved, and keeps a single mistake from becoming a verdict on an entire position group.
