Texas opened the 2026 season with a 59–7 home victory over Texas State on September 5. The Longhorns generated 516 yards of offense and forced three turnovers in front of an announced crowd of 102,738. It was the program’s ninth consecutive win in a home opener.

Arch Manning threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns, matching his career high for touchdown passes. He completed passes to eight receivers. Ryan Wingo led the receiving group with seven catches for 121 yards and a score, while Cam Coleman caught three passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns in his Texas debut.

The defense contributed a score when Graceson Littleton returned a fumble 59 yards in the second quarter. Texas led 28–7 at halftime and kept Texas State scoreless after the break. The result supplied an early look at the offense’s receiving options before the much closer Ohio State game a week later.
