Hollywood Smothers received his first Paul Hornung Award weekly honor after contributing as a runner, receiver and returner against Ohio State. Texas Athletics announced the selection on September 15. The award recognizes versatility in college football.

Smothers finished the game with 108 all-purpose yards across 25 touches: 74 rushing yards on 21 carries, 15 receiving yards on two catches and a 19-yard kickoff return. His two rushing touchdowns came from one yard out in the fourth quarter. The second tied the score with 25 seconds left, before the extra point put Texas ahead.

Through two games, the school credited Smothers with a team-leading 144 rushing yards on 31 attempts. He also had five receptions for 43 yards and a receiving touchdown. That combination gives Texas several ways to involve him as the offense prepares for UTSA, although Saturday’s workload and results remain to be seen.
