Ohio State enters Maryland week at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten, according to the university’s official schedule. The Buckeyes have won three straight since their one-point defeat at Texas. Their next game is at home, but the remaining October calendar puts a premium on carrying good habits away from Columbus.
After hosting Maryland on October 10, Ohio State is scheduled to visit Indiana on October 17 and USC on October 31. Oregon then comes to Ohio Stadium on November 7. As checked October 5, the university lists the Indiana, USC and Oregon kickoff times as to be announced. Fans should resist attaching a firm time to those games until the official schedule supplies one.
The distinction between the overall and conference records matters. A nonconference loss affects the full-season record, while the 2-0 Big Ten start describes league games already completed. Neither figure by itself tells readers where every other conference team stands or guarantees a championship-game position. The current record is a starting point for the next result.
Our analysis is that Maryland sits at a useful point in the schedule: a home opportunity before consecutive scheduled road games. That makes the quality of the performance worth watching alongside the final margin. Can the offense finish possessions cleanly? Can the defense handle changes in field position? Can the team avoid giving away opportunities that would be harder to recover elsewhere?
Those questions do not require predicting how Indiana or USC will play. They are a way to read the next game on its own terms while acknowledging what comes after it. One Saturday can provide evidence about a team’s habits without serving as a reliable forecast of every later matchup.
The calendar also explains why a weekly challenge should stay tied to its named opponent. Maryland’s result belongs to Maryland week. A later road victory cannot substitute for a missed scoring target or a player statistic on the October 10 card. Ohio State has made a winning start in conference play; its next chance to add to that record arrives in the Horseshoe.
