Trevor Goosby became a weekly nominee for the 2026 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award on September 16. Texas Athletics’ announcement described the left tackle’s recovery from open-heart surgery as a teenager and his later efforts to support research into congenital heart conditions.
According to the school, Goosby underwent surgery at 16 after a physical led doctors to investigate a heart murmur. Testing identified a congenital heart defect. The announcement traces his return from that surgery and other injuries to his current role on the Texas offensive line.
In July 2026, Goosby held a camp benefiting The Children’s Heart Foundation and personally matched donations made through the campaign. He also drew attention to the cause during SEC Media Days. The Courage Award considers hardship and courage both on and off the field. This week’s nomination places him under consideration; it is not the announcement of the annual winner.
