The Bears have signed D'Andre Swift to a three-year extension through 2029, keeping a major part of their running game under contract beyond this season. The club announced the signing September 12.
Swift rushed for 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025, both career highs. Chicago finished third in the NFL in rushing yards per game at 144.5, won the NFC North and reached the divisional round. Those results give the extension a clear football basis: the Bears are retaining a back who produced in Ben Johnson's offense.
General manager Ryan Poles emphasized Swift's work and consistency in the team's announcement. Johnson also described Swift as important to the team on and off the field. Swift had started all 33 of his regular-season appearances for Chicago through 2025, along with both playoff games that season.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported a three-year value of $33.75 million, citing confirmation of the agreement from Swift's agency on September 11. The club's announcement confirms the signing and term without publishing those financial details.
The contract follows a substantial improvement in efficiency. The Sun-Times reported that Swift averaged 4.9 yards on 223 carries in 2025 after 3.8 yards on 253 carries in his first Bears season. Chicago had originally signed him in March 2024 after his season with Philadelphia.
Retaining Swift also settles one decision while the Bears plan for other contracts. The Sun-Times noted that Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze become eligible for extensions after the 2026 season. Swift's deal provides continuity at running back, while leaving the front office to manage those future commitments.
