The highest first-week album sales in Hip Hop from 1998

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20-years since hip hop music saw debut releases from Black Eyed Peas, The Lox, Cam’Ron, and DMX, solo releases from Lauryn Hill and Pras, the continued dominance of Master P’s No Limit records, and greatest hits collections from the likes of 2Pac and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince.

1998 was a solid year for producers Swizz Beatz, Trackmasters, The Neptunes, and Beats by the Pound (who seemed to be on nearly every hit track) and was heavy with group releases from the likes of Goodie Mob,  Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, and more.

It was also time before downloads and streaming services where your first week release numbers meant something special.

We’ve compiled a list of those best-sellers of ’98, tell us in the comments which was your favorite.
